Time to retire the Hubble Space Telescope(2)

Hubble’s Mission and Beyond

The James Webb Space Telescope

Competition for Hubble and Hubble-like space telescopes is the feasible and cost effective “Dome C” site [two miles above sea level] right here on Earth so claim a group from the University of New South Wales. A long time enemy of terrestrial telescopes was atmospherics and thus mountains were sought such as in Chile, Hawaii, or the Canary Islands. The Hubble was free of atmospherics but prone to maintenance periods. The costs for Hubble were enormous: The craft itself, deployment, repair trips, replacement parts. The proposed telescope [The Douglas Mawson Telescope] would be located in the Antarctic and at a far less cost: About 700 million as compared to Hubble’s initial launch of two plus billion. The structure would be made from concrete-like “icecrete” and the mirrors made from architectural window glass. Astronomers and the like wouldn’t even have to visit the telescope for all could be done remotely by computers. There may be a hearty group of watchers and maintenance people to monitor the site. Incidentally, the Antarctic telescope would be limited to infrared and optical observations. Sounds like a good idea. Any drawbacks…other than freezing?

What is a White dwarf?(1)

A White dwarf is a dwarf star and the ‘white’ that was added to its name was just because, the few dwarfs that were found during their discovery appeared white–I’m not kidding, that’s true.

Do you know how dense a typical White dwarf can get?

Well, if you don’t, I can answer it for you: they appears in the size of our earth containing almost the entire mass of our sun. That’s too much right?

Because of their smaller size and heavier mass these stars are extremely denser and compact objects having the average density approaching 1,000,000 times that of water.

To help you understand the way in which a normal star turns in to a compact white dwarf, let me explain to you the typical life cycle of a typical star.

A star takes birth when large amounts of near by gaseous particles–hydrogen atoms–attracted towards each other through the gravitational force, gets collided and coalesce–after much needed collisions–with each other to produce large quantities of heat along with some heavier compounds. The heat that got released during this process is much like a controlled hydrogen explosion, and is in fact responsible for the star to shine so brightly up in the space.

This heat got one more responsibility to look after: helping the star by restricting the sudden catastrophic gravitational collapse and thus maintaining a slow contraction process . Eventually there comes a stage where the star attains a perfect balance between the gravitational force, that which tries to contract the star even further, and the force that was caused by the heat energy, that which tries to explode the star out. And thus the star remains stable until one of its forces gets weaker, and we all know that it can’t be the eternal gravitational force that gets weaker. The contraction process starts again and now the star reaches a stage where it was left with no fuel to burn anymore.

Spirit Mars Rover Highlights,Emergency on Mars!

Some of Spirit’s most memorable snapshots from Mars. These views are just a small sampling from the 124,000 images returned by the Mars Exploration Rover?[NASA JPL].? One day someone will bring the Spirit Rover back to Earth.

I feel like that was my first tabloid headline. Emergency! But, not really. Just an
update on the dedicated crew of the Mars500, which I track faithfully on Facebook and Twitter. Every time I fear those gents will get bored inside their enclosed “Spaceship” facility, new events unfold that show any trip offworld will be full of surprises — just like how we interact on Earth.

They celebrated numerous holidays in isolation, but appeared to make the best of their confinement with a few special foodstuffs and a pretty decent paper Christmas tree among their makeshift decorations.

Happy New Year From Mars500The Russians snuck in some vodka again, it would seem…
(Click to see the entire photo gallery)

However, the true measure of fun times came with their New Year 2011 portrait! And such whimsey. Diego’s sunglasses were a particularly interesting touch, given that none of them have seen the sun for 226 days now.

I’m glad to see them partying, since the Mars500 YouTube Channel recently showed that the crew had their first onboard emergency. With alarms blaring, the crew described the loss of power on the ship, and the crew was afterward without electricity, water and ventilation for 20 hours.

Not exactly a warp core breach, but all the drama of a sci-fi episode, complete with a happy ending where all systems were restored. Planned test? Unplanned? One must suspect it was a scheduled protocol to see crew reactions, given how oddly cheerful they seemed about the whole thing. But then, a sing-a-long in the dark would always be a good idea when you don’t know when your life support system will revive.

In a bit less than a month now, the crew will split into two teams; two will stay aboard the ship, and three “cosmonauts” will move into a separate container to walk on the surface of a mock-up Mars, using modified Russian Orlan spacesuits.

Check out their excellent blog for updates on their Rover-slash-Sampler Robot, and also see their wonderful photo gallery of all the tests on the fake surface of Mars. Such clever preparations, I can’t wait to see what happens!

Swedish UFO Crash,UFO Sighting Near Sun Using SOHO/NASA June 5, 2011 images, most bigger than Earth.

There has been, circulating on the Internet, a story that a crashed flying saucer has been found in 300 feet of water in the Gulf of Bothnia. That is, in the ocean between Finland and Sweden. It was found using sonar, which detected a circular object some 60 feet in diameter.
Peter Lindberg, a Swedish researcher (for ancient shipwrecks and the like but not UFOs), while searching for a 100-year-old wreck that might contain some rare champagne, found the circular object. Lindberg did not suggest it was a flying saucer. That has been left to Internet enthusiasts who decided that anything circular and that size must be a crashed flying saucer.
Lindberg himself did not make that suggestion but did say that in his 18 years as a professional he had never seen anything quite like this. That did not mean that it wasn t a natural formation, something made by humans, or be an anomaly created by the rough ocean floor and the depth at which the circular object was found. In fact, it might not be as perfectly circular as some speculate simply because the sonar being used didn t have the ability to discriminate precisely at that depth.
At this point there is absolutely no reason to suspect that this is an alien craft of some sort. Lindberg has said that he is not interested in further in investigations. While the recovery of an alien craft could potentially be worth billions of dollars, the more likely scenario is that this circular object on the bottom of the ocean is just that… a circular object that has no value at all.
This should be viewed as a cautionary tale. Only the shape, circular, suggests that this might be of alien origin, and that is highly speculative. The most likely explanation is something mundane. Since Lindberg is the man who found it, and since he sees nothing of value there, and in fact, did not suggest it was alien, we would be wise to listen. Yes, we need to keep an open mind but not one that is so open our brains fall out. With nothing else reported, without further information, the logical conclusion is in the mundane.
I hope this case will not be added to some of the extremely long lists of crashed saucers that float about on the Internet. It doesn t belong there unless and until there is more and better information.

UFO Sighting Near Sun Using SOHO/NASA June 5, 2011 images, most bigger than Earth.

Date of UFOs in Sun Photos: June 5, 2011

The still photos of the sun are all official SOHO/NASA images that were taken June 5, 2011, as the date on the photos indicate at lower center. The UFOs being seen around the sun are many times larger than Earth, so how could NASA hide this for so long, and how much longer till they admit the truth that there are ships larger than earth out there.

Massive swarms of UFOS surrounding the sun. We can call them alien. We can call then UFOS. No one else will tell us the truth to “WHAT THEY ARE”. For the last few months I have seen them at least 6 or 7 times a month but the amount present is unbelievable! There is no way this is “SPACE TRASH”
No longer an Anomaly. No longer an event. These images that are regularly appearing need to have a scientific name.

The Dugway ‘New Area 51′ Supposition(1)

Back in May 2009 I reported that the infamous military base, Nevada’s Area 51, was once again generating it’s share of wild speculation. The story continued to circulate that the base has either shut down or moved its most sensitive projects to other less-visible locations.

Twenty-two years ago, Eyewitness News in Las Vegas, NV started an investigation that put Area 51 on the map. The reason Area 51 became a household name is because of allegations they had flying saucers out there…craft that were made “somewhere else.”

In aviation circles, a lot of people figure that story was pure disinformation, concocted by the military to draw attention away from something else that was going on out there. If that’s the case, then the tactic surely backfired on the Air Force because, as a result of the saucer story, Area 51 became known all over the world and is still a focus of attention.

Over the past two years civilian pilots and other eyewitnesses have been seeing strange things in the skies in and around a restricted airspace that straddles the Nevada-Utah border.

Overhead view of Dugway Proving Grounds

A 1997 article in
Popular Mechanics
magazine claimed the whole place had shut down and moved to eastern Utah so the military could work on a secret space plane.

“Everybody knows about Area 51 and Groom Lake, but the interesting thing is, I don’t think there is anything there anymore,” said former CIA pilot John Lear in a May 2009 interview with investigator George Knapp.

Lear has done as much as anyone to put Area 51 on the map. He knows there are still programs underway out there, but he suspects the most sensitive projects, ones involving the most exotic technology, perhaps something resembling flying saucers, have been moved.

Lear stated some of the most advanced work was being done at a sister facility, Area 52, within the Tonopah Test Range. He also harbored suspicions about an adjunct facility called Base Camp, which is halfway between Areas 51 and 52. The facility is strictly off limits to outsiders and those who work on the inside don’t talk about what they do.

He was even more intrigued by a vast and remote section of desert south of Wendover, Nevada on the Utah-Nevada line. Lear, an accomplished pilot whose father invented the Lear Jet, still has numerous friends in the aviation world, and they told him stories about seeing camouflaged runways that open up in the middle of nowhere.

“As the pilots land, they tell me — as they’re coming in to be radar vectored at 500 feet — they look down and it will just be like desert or normal landscape and all of a sudden, it will unzip like this and they will see a runway,” he said.

A search of the area south of Wendover found no evidence of runways or military facilities, though others are looking as well.

Utah UFO hunters, perhaps yearning for an Area 51 of their very own, proposed that a planned massive expansion of Dugway Proving Grounds is part of a program to create a new Area 51. They also noted that Michael Air Base, which controls the airspace south of Wendover, has, like Dugway, been the site of some very strange things seen in the skies, including saucer-type craft and shafts of light that seem to emanate from the ground.

Recent reports of shutdowns, strange incidents and UFO sightings at Dugway Proving Grounds abound. A telling link has been an astonishing admission, made before a high-level Wright-Patterson official’s death, that this place is where alien corpses are kept.

Dugway Proving Grounds is a facility in service to all branches of the US military. It is strategically surrounded by three massive mountain ranges. It’s hidden size and secure, remote isolation make it an ideal location for secret testing of many types. There has been speculation that Dugway has tested the applications and effects of every known biological, chemical and radiological substance on earth. There is a long history of local concern about the harmful effects of their testing of deadly agents to the environment and to human and animal health. As recently as last month, the facility was put under a lockdown due to the loss of an ???extremely toxic nerve agent??? which was later recovered.

MAN MADE UFO LANDING ON MARS IN 1962 POSSIBLY REAL(2)

Only on the photographs one sees upon landing no dust is blown away, and no shadow of the rotor blades are visible, as is customary for a helicopter would. So it is apparently not a helicopter, but then what? The window of the object has at its outer edge, neither interfaces or screws. In the film, which has been absorbed by the object out, you can see the display ad) of the camera (or a monitor, it shows in English and Russian languages, the external air pressure of 700 millibars , An outside temperature with 4 ‘C and a wind speed of 21 km / h. What would be completely viable conditions, like on Earth. The voices that are heard, is probably the voices of the people in the control or by the crew in case of a manned Mars landing. Among other things, is heard: “This is the greatest thing in history, it is 22 May 1962, we have landed on Mars …. and we have found life! “But what is even more surprising is the fact that control can be heard as” Houston “, just as in all previous NASA missions. What is also immediately noticeable when the video for the first time provides: The atmosphere in the video is blue, which is in stark contrast to the present knowledge about the Martian atmosphere, which really ought to shine through the red iron oxide dust . At least it will give us the story of NASA. Mars is clearly red, but it must also apply the same for its atmosphere? Heaven on Earth is blue for one reason only, because the shortest wavelength blue and ultraviolet, which are scattered most strongly in the atmosphere and the human eye has a great sensitivity to blue colors. It is true that the violet light is strongly scattered, but as the proportion of violet in the sunlight, much weaker than the blue component and the eye is not so sensitive to violet light as blue light, we see the sky is blue. Could not this effect might also occur on Mars? At the beginning of the video, while the object flew very quickly, you can see over a short distance of approximately 100 m and water since the horizon is reflected in it. Again, this goes against all knowledge about Mars, where according to NASA occurs for a very long time, no liquid water left, only frozen water has been far discovered or suspected. The environment looks, despite all scientific contradictions of the Martian surface, very similar and can be seen shortly before landing a kind of basic or complex With white Surface. This film is truly remarkable, and this still looks absolutely real. The flight sequences mars?hnliche landscape and the radio traffic act so convincing that one comes to ponder erstmal. If this is a forgery, but a really good one. It is clear that in 1977 (Star Wars such a film) very well could have been faked. But we are talking about a pretty high production values with expensive special effects, a domed basen?hnlichen and expensive flight recordings, which had to be shot for this exotic desert landscape with security outside of England. This kind of production costs for an April Fool’s joke of a small British science program from today’s point of view somehow illogical. The show would have to show even without this so-called Ballantine tape to have had the same effect. On the other hand, there is once again in the movie “Alternative 3″ is a short sequence , Where a desert is shown from Africa, which sees in the desert landscape Ballantine video very similar and could suggest that this was probably faked it, but who knows. At the end of the film also something strange happened, just after the insertion of the object, the attention of the parties to an unusual movement on the ground. We see how “a little” digging through the ground, like a mole. Then one hears the phrase: “…. and we have found life! “. Decide for yourself what you think about it, but it is interesting all the time.

Pluto in Capricorn Opposite Canada’s Sun in Cancer in Cardinal Grand Cross Formation: And So it Begins(1)

From my May 8 post on the Canada Day eclipse/Cardinal Grand Cross:

“Canada’s benign, peacekeeper image, so strategically useful on the world stage, is in the process of being stripped bit-by-bit by a Pluto in Capricorn opposition to its Cancer Sun. Squared by transiting Uranus in Aries, the shocking extent of Canada’s role within the global war machine emerges as the facade is stripped. The fundamental understanding of Canada’s identity on the world stage – past, present and future – shifts rapidly and repeatedly over the next four years.”

According to a Wikileaks document obtained by the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation and reported on tonight, Canadian military forces were secretly committed by a Foreign Affairs official to aiding the U.S. invasion of Iraq.

On March 17, 2003, days before the invasion, then-Prime Minister Jean Chretien announced in the House of Commons that the Canadian military would not be part of the invasion of Iraq.

According to the Wikileaks memo, on that same day, meeting secretly with American and British diplomats in Ottawa, Foreign Affairs official James Wright said Canadian forces already in the Persian Gulf could be used on the down low in the mission.

From the CBC story:

“According to the U.S. account, Wright “emphasized” that contrary to public statements by the prime minister, Canadian naval and air forces could be “discreetly” put to use during the pending U.S.-led assault on Iraq and its aftermath.

At that time, Canada had warships, aircraft and over 1,200 naval personnel already in the Strait of Hormuz at the mouth of the Persian Gulf, intercepting potential militant vessels and providing safe escort to other ships as part of Operation Enduring Freedom, the post-Sept. 11, 2001, multinational war on terrorism.

The U.S. briefing note states: “Following the meeting, political director Jim Wright emphasized that, despite public statements that the Canadian assets in the Straits of Hormuz will remain in the region exclusively to support Enduring Freedom, they will also be available to provide escort services in the Straits and will otherwise be discreetly useful to the military effort.

“The two ships in the Straits now are being augmented by two more en route, and there are patrol and supply aircraft in the U.A.E. [United Arab Emirates] which are also prepared to ‘be useful.’

“This message tracks with others we have heard,” the U.S. diplomat wrote in his briefing note to State Department bosses in Washington.

“While for domestic political reasons the GOC [Government of Canada] has decided not to join in a U.S. coalition of the willing, they are also prepared to be as helpful as possible in the military margins.”"

Dust Models Paint Alien’s View of Solar System(1)

New supercomputer simulations tracking the interactions of thousands of dust grains show what the solar system might look like to alien astronomers searching for planets. The models also provide a glimpse of how this view might have changed as our planetary system matured.

“The planets may be too dim to detect directly, but aliens studying the solar system could easily determine the presence of Neptune — its gravity carves a little gap in the dust,” said Marc Kuchner, an astrophysicist at NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center in Greenbelt, Md. who led the study. “We’re hoping our models will help us spot Neptune-sized worlds around other stars.”

The dust originates in the Kuiper Belt, a cold-storage zone beyond Neptune where millions of icy bodies — including Pluto — orbit the sun. Scientists believe the region is an older, leaner version of the debris disks they’ve seen around stars like Vega and Fomalhaut.

“Our new simulations also allow us to see how dust from the Kuiper Belt might have looked when the solar system was much younger,” said Christopher Stark, who worked with Kuchner at NASA Goddard and is now at the Carnegie Institution for Science in Washington, D.C. “In effect, we can go back in time and see how the distant view of the solar system may have changed.”

Kuiper Belt objects occasionally crash into each other, and this relentless bump-and-grind produces a flurry of icy grains. But tracking how this dust travels through the solar system isn’t easy because small particles are subject to a variety of forces in addition to the gravitational pull of the sun and planets.

The grains are affected by the solar wind, which works to bring dust closer to the sun, and sunlight, which can either pull dust inward or push it outward. Exactly what happens depends on the size of the grain.

The particles also run into each other, and these collisions can destroy the fragile grains. A paper on the new models, which are the first to include collisions among grains, appeared in the Sept. 7 edition of The Astronomical Journal.

“People felt that the collision calculation couldn’t be done because there are just too many of these tiny grains too keep track of,” Kuchner said. “We found a way to do it, and that has opened up a whole new landscape.”

With the help of NASA’s Discover supercomputer, the researchers kept tabs on 75,000 dust particles as they interacted with the outer planets, sunlight, the solar wind — and each other.

The size of the model dust ranged from about the width of a needle’s eye (0.05 inch or 1.2 millimeters) to more than a thousand times smaller, similar in size to the particles in smoke. During the simulation, the grains were placed into one of three types of orbits found in today’s Kuiper Belt at a rate based on current ideas of how quickly dust is produced.

Stellarium – Really Stellar Open Source Software for Astronomy,Download Stellarium 0.11.0

Yesterday I installed Stellarium-0.8.2 from http://www.Stellarium.org . I should tell that it is the best software regarding Astronomy that I have installed.

How to use it?
Install the software. Launch the software, then define your observation location (like Chennai, Bangalore etc). This sets up the location, Time from GMT, current time (which is picked up from your System’s time). Now it will basically show your sky. It shows the sun, if its daytime currently. My current idea is to take the laptop today night and goto terrace and then basically try to figure out the stars and the constellations. The software also has a feature that allows to show the graphic (figure) for the constellation. Thats an awesome feature.

Update 1:
The first day I went to star gaze, it was really a nice experience. It was as well disappointing. There were lot of clouds and I didn’t have a clue of the exact directions, which made me guessing all the time. There was only one star that was bright and unfortunately it was not North Star. It was between North and East directions at an angle of around 60 degrees from the ground (i dont know how to technically give the values)..

The first lesson that I learnt was this: Never go star gazing without knowing the directions, or better take a magnetic compass, until you get yourself familiar with the directions. This really makes sense because, in the beginning, even though you have a rough idea of where east is, it wont help you much, if you see several bright stars (excluding me ). If its mostly cloudy, then you dont have great issues.
